The UC Davis Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) supports undergraduate and graduate students who are in or seeking recovery from substance use and other addictive behaviors. We offer recovery meeting spaces, sober social events, and access to academic, career, and wellness resources all designed to help students thrive in their recovery and reach their full potential.
The Collegiate Recovery Program welcomes students at any stage of their recovery journey, whether they are just beginning to explore what recovery means to them, considering sober-curious alternatives, or have been in recovery for many years. We support both abstinence-based and harm-reduction approaches and are committed to creating a campus environment that empowers and uplifts all students in recovery.

Frequently Asked Questsions
- What is Recovery?
- It is up to each person to decide what recovery means to them. Recovery is not just stopping your addictive behaviors, but also going beyond and improving your wellbeing.
Our CRP recognizes SAMHSA’s definition of recovery as “a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to their full potential.” - Who does recovery help?
- Recovery helps those who have habits and behaviors that they want to change, such as addiction. Addiction can look different for everyone, but common signs include repeating behaviors or substance use even when it leads to unwanted outcomes, struggling to cut back on your own, or relying on them to cope with stress.
Recovery also helps anyone in need for a healthier lifestyle, distance from triggering environments, or a supportive community of people who understand what you're going through. It often starts with being curious about your relationship with substances or certain behaviors, and being more mindful of your substance use, a method popularly known as “sober curiosity." - What are the different types of recovery?
- Recovery is whatever pathway that works best for you. CRP recognizes all forms of recovery such as abstinence, harm reduction and sober curious models. We provide different approaches, including different types of meetings, sober events, and workshops focused on healthier coping strategies.
Our program has opportunities to address all types of addiction, not just from substances. We also provide spaces to discuss sex and love addiction, gambling addiction, pornography addiction, and more. - What are students in recovery like?
- Our students look just like you and are facing the same struggles. Students of all ages, cultures, experiences, gender-identities, traditional students, non-traditional students, formerly incarcerated students, veterans, and more. Substance Use Disorder (SUDs) and addiction can affect anyone, and we welcome anyone to our program.
- What are the requirements for our program?
- There’s no intake process and no commitment required—you can come and go as you please. The only requirement is a desire to better oneself.
We welcome anyone at any stage of recovery; either starting out, exploring, struggling or have been in the recovery process for a while. - What services do we provide?
- We provide weekly recovery meetings along with opportunities for addiction discussion groups. We also advocate for students in recovery and provide coping mechanism workshops to invite healthier coping habits.
We also recognize that college culture often revolves around alcohol and other substances, so we offer sober social events where students can connect, have fun, and build community without the pressure of using.
